I was born and raised in the Philippines. I am the youngest of four children. I grew up in a small closeknit village where basically everybody knew everybody else. Then after graduating in grade school, our family moved closer to the city. That was when I came to be at the Church more often and was drawn by the great charisma of the Pastor at that time. My oldest brother is also a priest who is now assigned at our home parish. He was the one that also inspired me to follow God’s call in my life.
I attended the local elementary school where my mom also taught. She was my first grade teacher and that was the only time I received first honors and finished at the top of the class. You know the reason obviously. Then after graduation, I attended high school where my dad also taught which was in a different city. I fondly recall how we commuted everyday by motorcycle for four years under the scorching heat of the sun. So, that explains why I got so tanned. Then after graduation, I entered the college seminary (Mary Help of Christian College Seminary) which was in another city. But only this time I don't have to commute
everyday which was great. Then I attended Immaculate Conception School of Theology in another state for two years and St. Patrick's Seminary in Menlo Park, CA for the final stage of my seminary formation where I enjoyed and still do the wonderful California sun. By the grace of God I was ordained as a deacon on May
28, 2007 and priest on August 22, 2008.
I used to play basketball a lot and also table tennis but haven't had enough time to do it these days. Though I would love to play again given I have spare time. I am a big fan of the Los Angeles Lakers (no offense meant of course to Kings fans). I also love to see the movies, work out and on a few occasions drive to the beach and walk through parks and lakes.
As to organizations to which I belong, I am a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus and of course the clergy of the Diocese of Sacramento.
I'd like to see Rome and the Holy Land. All roads lead to Rome as they say and there's nothing more fulfilling than to see the places where Christ was born. I think those two sites will definitely make my life complete. I am soft-spoken and I consider myself an introvert but I so gain so much energy when I'm around people.Generally, I keep my homilies under 7 minutes and that's a promise. I said "generally" because I learned that people's attention span tend to get shorter in the winter time and longer in the summer time. And so if I go over 7 minutes and you know it's winter, you can tell me to stop and I won't mind. But of course of special feast days such as Christmas or Easter Sunday, I might preach longer regardless of the season. Well, that's me. It's your turn when I get there. I look forward to seeing and serving all of you soon. God bless! |
