Youth Group 2009-10
The 2009-10 St. Patrick Parish Youth Group

THANK YOU TO OUR ANONYMOUS DONOR!!

The St. Patrick Parish High School Youth Group would like to say Thank You to our Anonymous Donor!  At Christmas we received a card written with many kind words and a cash donation of $650.  Our donor has supported our efforts to sponsor our child, Raymond Mujar, from the Philippines.  Through Christian Foundation for Children and Aging, we sponsor Raymond to assist with food, education, medical care, and clothing.  We have also developed a relationship with Raymond and communicate with him several times a year by letter.  Our group recently sent him a Christmas package and a package for his birthday.  We are grateful and very appreciative to our Anonymous Donor!

YOUTH GROUP NEWS
January - February 2010

Youth Group met on January 10th with 20 members present.  After a delicious lunch of breakfast burritos and fruit, prepared and served by Maja Johnson, there was much on the agenda to discuss:

  • Jenae Parkey gave a report about the Teen Bible Study program that has started with encouragement for all to attend.
  • Marci Russell reviewed the “Walk for Life” plans for January 23rd.
  • Janice Davis talked about the plans for the upcoming retreat planned for February 14th-15th.  The theme is “Love Your Faith, Live Your Faith”.  Sign-up deadline is Thursday January 28th and 15 participants are needed to make the program happen.
  • The Parish Food closet committee needs help!  Those wishing to help can meet at 10:00 a.m. on Youth Group Sundays to organize the food closet and pack grocery bags.
  • Janice talked about Camp Re-Creation opportunities this summer for high school teens in our Diocese.  Information was handed out.
  • We will meet for Ash Wednesday breakfast on February 17th at 6:45 a.m. at the Waffle Shop.  After breakfast we will attend the 8:00 a.m. Mass at St Patrick.
  • Janice read the card that we received from Raymond, our adopted child in the Philippines.
  • Janice read the Christmas card from an Anonymous Donor.  This person has twice given  our Youth Group money to sponsor our child, Raymond.  Included in the card was a donation of $650.
  • It was decided that since we received enough money from our Anonymous Donor to sponsor Raymond for another two years, our group will be conducting the recycling program for the next two months and the money will be given to the family of Katie Rose.  That recycling program was going to start to raise the money to sponsor Raymond for next year.

We had an icebreaker activity called “Pile of Hats.”

For today’s lesson we talked about two topics related to the Bible:

  • When you read the 14 narrative books in order you begin to see the “big picture” of salvation, the “big story” from beginning to the end…as if you were reading it from start to finish.  Those narrative books are: Genesis, Exodus, Numbers, Joshua, Judges, 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, 2 Kings, Ezra, Nehemiah, Maccabees, Luke, Acts.
  • The group was split up into four small groups and each group was given a scripture reading and a situation.  The groups came up with a lesson about the information that was given and presented the lesson to the whole group.

The next Youth Group meeting will be Sunday, February 21st.

* A QUOTE FROM: A VISION OF YOUTH MINISTRY, 1976, DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION OF THE UNITED STATES CATHOLIC CONFERENCE, PAGE 6.

My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste. So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off. --  PROVERBS 24:13-14
